Scanners
Our scanners send connection requests and protocol handshakes to measure which services are reachable and how they are configured. They do not attempt to log in, exploit vulnerabilities, or change any system. Each scanner serves this notice at its own address over HTTP.
Review and disclosure
Studies that may involve human subjects go to the Virginia Tech IRB before data collection. When our measurements expose a vulnerable system or leaked data, we notify the operator or provider and give them time to fix it before we publish.
